Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is an herbaceous plant of the family of the Pedaliaceae, native to India and Africa, whose seeds are used to prepare processed food.
It is an annual plant that reaches 50 (maximum 100) cm in height with long lance-shaped leaves.
The long tubular flowers are white and they are 3 to 5 cm long. The seeds are small, white or black, depending on the variety.
The area of origin of the plant is unknown, but many wild species are common in Africa and some other in India.
